My personal story
Walk a mile in my lii sooyii moo (moccasin)
Back near the beginning! Starting in 1977, I graduated as a nurse at 20 years old. I was the first Métis nurse in Saskatchewan. Follow along with me in my work journey (along with some personal reflections as well), and experience my learning moments framed in the history of Indigenous people in Canada.
Be warned, it is not an easy journey.
Included are some of my proud moments and others, less so.
I met a number of First Nations nurses along the way, but for many years, I was the only Métis nurse. Fortunately, in recent years, there has been an increase in Indigenous nurses, so there are others out there doing important work. Still, a long ways to go.
